About me
Sarah F Porter (she/her/u), MHS, is an MSW/PhD student at the University of Washington School of Social Work. Her research in critical suicidology seeks to improve crisis mental health services by addressing societal and systemic factors that influence suicidality. Sarah’s dissertation seeks to understanding the role of the peer workforce in mental health interventions, and opportunities for voluntary peer-based care to reduce injuries within the crisis care system. As co-Principal Investigator for the Population Health Initiative grant at the University of Washington, Sarah is part of a multidisciplinary research team that includes leaders in peer-led non-carceral forms of mental health service delivery in community care settings. She utilizes a community-based participatory research framework to center the wisdom and priorities of communities in the transformation of the mental healthcare system.
